Through a grant of £60,000, the Army Central Fund contributed, alongside an additional contribution by the Army Benevolent Fund, to the delivery of residential experiences during the 2025 summer programme. While the wider OOSA programme provides community-based activities across Army locations, ACF funding specifically supports the more intensive residential adventures, enabling children and young people to take part in outdoor education and challenging activities in a safe and supported environment.
Across the summer, hundreds of places were offered on residential experiences, alongside thousands of children engaging in local holiday activities. The residential element provides opportunities for young people to try new activities such as climbing and paddleboarding, develop teamwork and communication skills, and build confidence and independence. For many families, particularly during periods of deployment or training absence, these shared and supported opportunities help reduce isolation and provide structure during the long school holidays.
Feedback from both parents and participants highlights increased confidence, new friendships and improved wellbeing. By investing in accessible and inclusive holiday provision, the Army Central Fund helps ensure that children and young people from serving families can enjoy positive, challenging experiences that strengthen resilience and connection across the Army community.
