Why our funding is needed
Service life brings unique rewards, but also unique pressures. Frequent moves, periods of separation, demanding roles and uncertainty can affect wellbeing, family stability and long-term career sustainability for serving personnel and their families.
The Army Central Fund exists to promote the efficiency of the British Army by supporting the wellbeing and stability of those who serve, Regular and Reserve, and the people who support them. Through a mix of planned and responsive grant funding, we support initiatives that complement Army provision and the work of other charities, helping to address gaps, reduce pressures and improve access to facilities, services and opportunities.
We focus our funding where there is clear benefit to the serving Army community and where our support can make a meaningful difference, contributing positively to morale, retention and a more resilient Army.

Our funding focuses on three core themes that address the pressures of military life and help improve operational effectiveness. These are set out in detail in our Grantmaking Strategy. We support initiatives which are aligned with both the Army People Plan and our charitable purpose.

Health, wellbeing, recovery and rehabilitation
We support initiatives that promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, recognising the demands of military life and the importance of resilience, recovery and participation. This includes funding for sport, adventurous training, rehabilitation, mental health support and projects that reduce barriers to wellbeing.
Family, welfare and community support
Strong families and connected communities are central to sustainable service life.
We fund initiatives that support families, strengthen welfare provision, reduce isolation and help Army communities feel stable, supported and engaged.
Education, training, employment and skills
We recognise the challenges faced by spouses, partners and adult dependants in maintaining careers and access to opportunity. Our funding supports initiatives that build skills, improve employability and help remove barriers created by the realities of service life.
