Army Central Fund support enables Vector24’s “Extra Mile” project to provide urgent, tailored transport for serving Army personnel and their families attending medical treatment.

Through a grant of £61,500, the Army Central Fund has supported the delivery of a 24-hour response service across Scotland, helping serving personnel and their families access time-critical medical appointments. The project provides bespoke transport for individuals referred through Personal Recovery Units and other welfare channels, including journeys to specialist hospitals across the UK. During the first six months of delivery, 49 serving personnel and 17 family members received support.

By reducing practical barriers to attending appointments, the service helps alleviate stress at an already difficult time. Rapid response arrangements for urgent requests ensure individuals are not left navigating complex travel logistics while managing injury, illness or recovery. Alongside transport, the project provides a supportive and empathetic environment during journeys, helping beneficiaries feel reassured and able to focus on their health.

By investing in practical, responsive welfare support, the Army Central Fund helps ensure serving personnel can access essential medical care without unnecessary delay or additional pressure. The project contributes to improved wellbeing and stability for individuals and families facing challenging circumstances.
